Fund Raising Snooker Tournament in Sheffield
17th – 18th April 2008
Snooker competition for people with Learning Disabilities
Three Adults with Learning Disabilities represented Salisbury at a Snooker tournament in Snookers home town of Sheffield.

(From Left. JT, JP, Steve Harrison, PF, Steve Cross)
Steve Cross of Salisbury heard about the event that was being organized and hosted by former professional snooker player, and snooker club owner - Steve Harrison.
Steve Harrison runs a tuition class at his club for people with learning disabilities, and has had a great response.

(Steve Harrison giving PF Tuition)
Steve Cross advertised the event around Salisbury and applied for a South Wilts MenCap grant to help cover costs. The final 3 people who went were JT and JP from a Salisbury Care organization, and PF from WH Care Home
They all drove the 4 hr journey to Sheffield, booked into a local hotel, and began playing!
The tournament was a great success! PF Won his first round Matches, and JT did very well. JP Won his Pool contest and they all played many ‘friendly’ games with other people between tournament matches.

They all went to see the Crucible Theatre to see where it all happens!

(From Left: PF, Steve Cross, JT, JP)
Steve cross – ‘It was great to see everyone socialising and enjoying the game. You could see that everyone was having a thoroughly good time! I take PF up to Salisbury Snooker Club regularly and he plays well. He always asks if we can have one more game! So it was great to see him play his heart out..
(This had such a good impact in Sheffield that Steve Harrison and Steve Cross will liaise together to organize a similar event in Salisbury, and people from Sheffield and anywhere else who want to compete can).
'I hope this will take off in a very positive way!’
They will all receive signed Cue’s, Photo and T-shirts from Jimmy White, Tickets to the Crucible Theatre, and they have all got a certificate of achievement for their efforts.
More info can be found on the main Snooker website - www.worldsnooker.com
All in all it was a great couple of days where people from across the country could enjoy socialising and have a sporting game of snooker.
Steve Cross will be liaising with Salisbury Snooker Club in July 2008 to organize a regular tuition class especially for people with disabilities (weekly) and a similar fund raising tournament (annually).
We would also like suggestions for any other events / activities that would be of interest and would like to help to host / organize them.
